New Diet, Again. Again.

So I've been doing my own version of the Atkin's diet for the last month or so. I wanted to lose weight quickly. So I've been really compliant, but in doing so am finding my body is not agreeing with the plan. I have no energy, I have more pain than usual, even for me, I find my blood sugar tanking every day, and I feel really deprived. I decided this probably won't work for me long term, and my body needs some good carbs and some fruit and such. A friend suggested the website SparkPeople.com, and I like it a lot! It has you track your food, exercise, and other healthy goals and it's really interactive. You enter a goal weight and your current weight and the date you want to reach the goal and it gives you a diet plan. That is what I'm doing. Today. Ha! I am the Queen of Diets. What haven't I tried...?

I am trying a new thing for meals, as I hate to actually prepare food for just me. I made a smoothie today, and am going to take those for meals at work. Much easier to eat on the go that way. Mine was all fruity, with whey protein and spinach. Colour me health-ful. Ü

  1. I set up an account on there a WHILE ago (too embarrassed to actually admit how long ago). Glad you are trying to search for realistic. I have just found for me that I have to go slow and steady. I'm keeping a food journal, watching carbs (as I mentioned before)...nowhere near the strict guidelines of Atkins. I liked the idea, but felt too restricted by it, too.

I also think small goals are good for me. Not sure about you. I made it a point to really stick to no after dinner snacking and NO DIET COKE. I'm doing pretty good at both! No diet coke in a week...now that's sayin' something for me!

Keep it up girl! I'm excited to see where 2011 takes us!

  2. I've cut out fries when I go out for fast food. It's amazing how much difference just that little act has made. Keep on keepin' on. I believe in you!

  3. Yes it is true that the way you are working out you absolutely need carbs. Your body has been eating at any stores you have which depletes your energy. Sticking to the good carbs like vegetables and whole grains. Be careful on too much fruit (berries are okay though). You are doing awesome and it is great that you are listening to your body. Way to go girl!!!

  4. Carrie--Food journaling seems helpful. Actually knowing what I'm consuming is eye opening, to say the least... Small goals are also a good idea; that's why I like SparkPeople, it sets you up with small goals at a time. After dinner snacking is tough! I feel your pain! And way to go on no Diet Coke! I'm not quite there. :) This is going to be a great year for us. Ü

James, working on the small things is much more realistic. Great job. Thank you! You keep on keepin' on too; one day at a time. Ü

Rachael--I'll be careful with the fruit! I'm only using it in the morning with the breakfast smoothie, and only using the berries. :) Thank you for the encouragement and free fitness advice :-P You are seriously an inspiration to me. I appreciate you!
